Event Details
The Women's Trail Festival is a two-day event at Freedom Park in Williamsburg, VA, scheduled for a Saturday and Sunday in late March. The event features trail running and hiking options over two distances.
Distances and Format
Participants can choose from the following activities, which are held on different days:
- 10-mile trail loop (competitive run on Saturday, non-competitive hike on Sunday)
- 8k (approximately 5-mile) course (non-competitive hike on Saturday, competitive run on Sunday)
There are no time limits for any of the activities. Running is allowed in the non-competitive hikes.
Course Information
The 10-mile course is a single loop described as technical and scenic. It consists of about 7 miles of single-track mountain bike trail, 2 miles of paved path, and some double-track. It has roughly 700 feet of elevation gain. Three aid stations are placed on the course.
The 8k course uses the first part of the 10-mile route. It is primarily on narrow, single-track trails with roots and inclines, finishing with a mile of double-track. One aid station is available.
Additional Activities
The festival includes more than just the trail activities. The entry fee covers one race, a T-shirt, one lunch, and access to all educational talks and exercise classes held on both days. All finishers receive a medal. A portion of the event's proceeds is donated to the Williamsburg House of Mercy and the Colonial Road Runners Scholarship fund for a female athlete.
While focused on women, men are welcome to register to honor a special woman or to volunteer. Men are not eligible for awards. The event is Trail Sisters approved. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
