Winter Half Tour of Bradwell
The Winter Half is a winter fell race held on Saturday 13th February 2027 with a reserve date of 20th February. The venue is The Sports Pavilion opposite the Samuel Fox pub in Bradwell, Hope Valley, S33 9ST. Entries open on November 1st and the organisers have set a limit of 300 entries. Entry fees listed are £16 plus £2 for non FRA up to 31/01/2026, then £20 plus £2 for non FRA up to 06/02/2027, with end of day entry at £24 plus £2 for non FRA if spaces remain. Car parking is free and there will be soup, tea and coffee after the race.
The course is an anticlockwise loop of about 17.5 miles, passing Shatton ridge, Bamford, Ladybower, Win Hill, Vale of Edale, Hope, Lose Hill and the Great Ridge, then Castleton, Cave Dale, Dirtlow Rake, Pin Dale, the cement works and back to Bradwell. A short untimed section is used for the Bamford road crossing. The final route depends on the weather and a bad weather alternative may be used.
Because this is a winter event, a detailed kit list is mandatory. Required items include fell shoes judged suitable for rough terrain, full waterproof body cover and waterproof overtrousers, hat or buff, gloves, compass, whistle, map and control descriptions, timing chip and race number, sufficient food and drink, a watch, an emergency bivvy bag and a phone in a waterproof bag. Marshals may require extra layers and may disqualify runners who do not meet equipment rules.
Timing will use Race-Tek and the Beacon Racing app will be tested; app users may earn a bottle of local beer as part of the test.
