Winter Excalibur
Winter Excalibur takes place on Sunday 1 November 2026 and is organised by Excalibur Marathon near Moel Famau.
Race headquarters and registration are at Coed Moel Famau car park CH& 5SH. To reach the venue leave the A494 between Mold and Ruthin for Tafarn Y Gelyn and follow the signs for Moel Famau; the event HQ is signposted. There is a secure baggage area at Race HQ. Registration and kit check take place at Race HQ; competitors receive a race number with chip, safety pins and a supplied waterproof map.
Distances:
- 17 km route with 2766 ft / 843 m ascent
- 10 km route with 1353 ft / 412 m ascent Canicross entries are available for both distances.
Routes run mainly on trails and footpaths with some more technical sections and significant climbs. At numbered checkpoints there will be snack items. Water is provided only at CP3 on the 17 km route in refillable containers with taps; there will be no cups, so runners should carry a full water bottle from the start and be prepared to refill. The route is signed and marshals are positioned at checkpoints and strategic points. Mountain Rescue cover will be available and sweepers will follow the tail end.
Mandatory kit includes body waterproofs (jacket and trousers), hat or buff, gloves, compass, whistle and a refillable bottle. Dogs are permitted but must be on a harness or lead and run ahead of the main field. The finish area offers catering, hot food, drinks and toilets; soup will be available and organisers note a reduction in single use plastic and a sustainable finish memento.
