Winter Excalibur

Winter Excalibur takes place on 1 November 2026 around Moel Famau with race headquarters at Coed Moel Famau car park (CH&5SH). The event offers trail routes over farmland and footpaths with significant climb and more technical sections in places. Parking is accessed from the A494 between Mold and Ruthin by following signs for Tafarn Y Gelyn and Moel Famau.

Distances

  • 17 km - 10.8 miles, 843 m ascent
  • 10 km - 6.2 miles, 412 m ascent

On-the-day registration is available for both distances and includes race number, chip, safety pins and a waterproof route map. There is a secure baggage area at Race HQ. Runners must carry mandatory kit including waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, supplied map, compass, whistle and a refillable water bottle. Kit checks will be random and the Race Director may adjust minimum kit requirements on the day.

The route is fully signed and marshalled but competitors are expected to navigate with their map and compass; mountain rescue and sweepers will be available. Checkpoints provide water in containers with taps and snack items; participants must carry a full water bottle at the start as there will be no cups. Organisers are reducing single use plastic and will provide a sustainable memento and soup at the finish. GPX files are available for both routes. Proceeds after expenses will go to Running Headfirst. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
