Winter Canal Canter
The Winter Canal Canter is a series of trail races held along the Leeds to Liverpool Canal at Wyther Lane, Kirkstall, Leeds LS5 3BT. The course is an out and back route on good trail surfaces with minimal elevation, described as flat and suitable for steady running.
Feed and drink stations are provided normally every three miles and offer drinks and a range of food; the organiser operates a cup less policy so runners should use a reusable cup or bottle. The course is marshalled and signed, and there will be marshals positioned for safety and assistance. Bibs are issued on the day with registration and toilets located next to the canal. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and additional treats.
All races are licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA rules. There are unmarshalled road crossings on the route. Large over ear headphones are banned; bone conducting or one in one out in ear pieces are acceptable where needed. Transfers and deferrals can be arranged by self service up to seven days before the event. The organiser no longer mails a race brief; event information and FAQs are available online.
Getting to the start area: there is no parking at the start finish, but local parking is available, and the closest train station is Headingley on the Northern service.
