Windy Hill Fell Race
Windy Hill Fell Race is a winter fell event based at the Rams Head Inn, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Oldham OL3 5UN. The route covers 12 miles with 2100 feet ascent and follows a high moorland line out towards Hollingworth Lake, up to Blackstone Edge, along the Pennine Way to the mast at Windy Hill, then down into the Ogden Valley before returning to the Rams Head. Some checkpoints on the course will provide water and sweets. An A3 map is available for purchase at £4.00.
Entry is limited to 300 runners. Entry fees are listed as £16 for competitors affiliated to FRA / LDWA / TRA and £18 for non affiliated competitors. Entries on the day are permitted at £20 if the limit has not been reached. Minimum age to compete is 17 years.
As this is a winter race, full FRA kit is required. Required items include a waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves (a buff is acceptable for a hat), a traditional paper map and compass (digital maps are accepted only if carried alongside a paper map; digital compass devices are not allowed), a whistle, emergency food, and a water bottle of at least 500 ml.
