Windy Hill Fell Race
Windy Hill Fell Race is scheduled for 21 February 2027 and is organised by CraggRunner. The route is 12 miles with about 2100 feet of ascent, starting and finishing at the Rams Head Inn, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Oldham OL3 5UN. The course leaves the Rams Head, heads towards Hollingworth Lake, climbs to Blackstone Edge, follows a high moorland traverse along the Pennine Way to the mast at Windy Hill, drops down into the Ogden Valley and returns to the Rams Head for the finish.
As a winter fell race full FRA kit is required. Required items include a waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves, a traditional paper map and compass (digital maps are accepted only if accompanied by a paper map; digital compass is not allowed), a whistle, emergency food, and a water bottle of at least 500 ml. Optional extra clothing should reflect conditions on the day. Some checkpoints will supply water and sweets.
Entry details include a minimum age of 17 years, an event limit of 300 competitors, and entry fees of £16 for FRA LDWA or TRA affiliated runners and £18 for non affiliated runners. Entries on the day may be £20 if the entry limit has not been reached. An A3 map is available for £4. At the finish free hot soup is provided at the Rams Head.
