About the race
The Windsor Castle 10-Hour is a manually timed loop race held at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA and organized by Lion's Pride Racing. The event uses a 5 km (3.1-mile) trail loop and offers multiple time and distance options:
- 10 hours main event
- 5 hours Half Windsor
- 2 hours Mini Windsor
- 5 km one-lap race
The course is run counterclockwise on forested rolling dirt paths, crosses wooden bridges, and uses exposed paved park paths. The loop features approximately 138 feet of elevation gain per loop and includes two street crossings that are monitored by volunteers. The start and finish area is located in the grassy field on the north end of the park. The park is open to the public, so other users may be on the course.
Aid is provided at a full station in the start/finish area with an additional water stop at Mile 2.2. The event is cup-less; participants are required to carry their own hydration and bring a cup, handheld, or hydration pack. The aid station is stocked with a wide selection of snacks and simple hot foods. Alcohol is not permitted.
Lap counting is manual. Volunteers will record laps under a canopy beyond the start/finish line; participants must report their bib number, event, and lap count after each loop. Only full loops count toward scoring. Rucking is allowed in the 10-, 5-, and 2-hour events with required ruck weights of 30 pounds for participants 150 pounds or more and 20 pounds for participants under 150 pounds. Teams of up to six members may be formed. Awards are given to the top three women and men in each event and finishers receive a homemade medal.
