About the race
The Windsor Castle races take place at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA. The event uses a looped course of 5 km with varied terrain and approximately 138 feet of elevation gain per loop. The course is run counterclockwise on forested rolling dirt paths, wooden bridges, and exposed paved sections.
The park is open to the public, so non-race users may be on the course. This is a manually timed event with volunteer lap counters. Runners must complete full loops for laps to count and should report their bib number and lap totals to the counters after each loop. A separate recorded finish and race chute will be used for the one-lap 5 km event.
Late starts are allowed for some events with prior notice to the race director. Rucking is offered for selected events. Required ruck weights are 30 lbs for participants 150 lbs or more and 20 lbs for participants under 150 lbs; exceptions can be requested from the race director. The on-course aid area is cup-less; participants are required to carry personal hydration.
A full aid station is located at the Start/Finish area and an additional water stop is located at Mile 2.2. The aid station provides a variety of food options and nonalcoholic drinks. Awards are given to the top three women and men in each event, and finishers receive a homemade medal. Teams of up to six members may be formed and scored by combined miles.
