Wildlands Summit Run
The Wildlands Summit Run is the 33rd annual trail running event organized by the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust. Established in 1993, the event includes a summit trail run and a short fun run along local trails in Hancock County, Maine.
Distances:
- 6.2-mile summit course to the 1,009 foot peak of Great Pond Mountain
- 1-mile Fun Run to the banks of the Dead River
The 6.2-mile route follows single-track, forested trails with scenic lookouts, granite slabs, roots, rocks, and mud. The course gains about 1,660 feet of elevation on the way to the summit and then descends on technical downhill mountain bike trails with berms, finishing on Dead River Road at Half-Mile Field. The 1-mile Fun Run follows the Picnic Trail down to the Dead River.
Course details are subject to change. Parking is accessed through the GPMCT Dead River Trailhead Gate in Orland on Don Fish Road past the fish hatchery; participants keep driving on the gravel road until directed where to park. After the races there is a gathering for food and awards and GPMCT merchandise will be available for sale.
The event is a fundraiser for the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust. GPMCT manages 5,200 acres of mountains, woods, and water for wildlife habitat, sustainable forestry, and community trails. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
