Wicklow Way Race
The Wicklow Way Race is an ultra trail race running across the Wicklow Way from Marlay Park, Dublin to Clonegal, County Carlow. The course distance is 127.0 km with total climb of 3665 m and a maximum time allowance of 21 hours. The event is part of the Irish Ultra Championships and awards 5 ITRA points to finishers.
Entry fee is €80. Entries close Monday 10th August 2026 at 18:00; places are limited and some places are already taken. Entry is non refundable and non transferable. Pre-approval is required before taking an entry and requires evidence of a completed race of 50 km or greater within the past year.
The route is only marked at major junctions and runners must follow the Wicklow Way as signposted on race day; deviations that are not self-corrected may incur time penalties or disqualification. GPS devices are allowed. Headphones are prohibited for safety; having one earbud in either ear is treated the same as both and may lead to disqualification.
Mandatory kit (Level C Advanced) must be carried and may be checked; items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy, full waterproof leg cover, minimum 500 mL water carrying means, emergency food, a map and compass.
Participants may race solo or with a crew; assistance outside official checkpoints is not allowed. Drop bags are transported to designated aid stations and some checkpoints accept food-only drop bags while later checkpoints accept clothing and shoe drops. Support runners may join only at specified checkpoints and require IMRA membership; a supported runner is not eligible for prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
