About the race
Wicked Spring Rogaine is an outdoor rogaining event held in Chinatown, North Canterbury, New Zealand. Teams navigate by map and compass on foot across terrain that ranges from open farmland to hilly forest, visiting checkpoints that carry different point values depending on access difficulty. Teams choose routes and strategies to maximise their score within a fixed time.
Competition options include the following durations:
- 6 hour course
- 4 hour course
- 2 hour course
- Wicked Kids Fun event (approximately 1 hour)
Teams may be entered in gender classes (Men, Women, Mixed) and age categories (Open, Junior, Veteran, Super Veteran). Team composition rules require at least one member 18 or over if a team includes someone under 14. Team sizes must comply with event rules.
Mandatory gear requirements include a polypropylene base layer top, waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, good footwear, one litre of water per person, plus team items such as a whistle, pencil, first aid kit, one cellphone and one compass. Suggested additional items include a highlighter, gaiters or waterproof leggings, and trekking poles.
