About the race

Bridge to Bridge Ultra Marathon is a multi-distance trail and stop-bank run along the Waimakariri River in Canterbury, finishing on Raven Quay in Kaiapoi. The event offers four distances:

  • 60 km from Waimakariri Golf Club to Raven Quay Kaiapoi
  • 30 km from Downs Road to Raven Quay Kaiapoi
  • 15 km from Harrs Road to Raven Quay Kaiapoi
  • 5 km from Waimakariri River Park to Raven Quay Kaiapoi

Courses use river roads, stop banks and single-track trails through Waimakariri River Park, passing under motorway bridges before returning to the stop bank for the final approach to Kaiapoi. Support runners are not permitted for the 60 km ultra; support teams may attend the last three food stations but are restricted from the 15 km mark for safety reasons. Drink and food stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, bananas, coke, lollies and chips, and runners may refill their own fluid carriers; the event does not supply disposable plastic cups. Bag drop is available only for the 60 km event and must be sealed, clearly labelled and handed in before race day; there are no bag drops on the morning of the event. Organisers require compulsory gear for 60 km competitors, including warm layers, waterproof jacket, survival blanket and a charged mobile phone in a waterproof container. Checkpoints with enforced cut-offs are located at Downs Road, Harrs Road (start of stop bank), near the motorway bridges and at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
