White Peak Half Marathon

The White Peak Half Marathon follows the High Peak Trail from Friden to Cromford along former railway tracks. The route runs over firm, compacted limestone and cinder surfaces; road running shoes are recommended. The finish and race HQ are at Cromford Wharf, where registration takes place at the canalside and runners collect their bib numbers.

The course undulates along the tops of the dales for roughly the first eight miles, then descends in three stages (around 7, 9 and 10.5 miles) down to High Peak Junction on the Cromford Canal. The total descent on the half marathon route is about 800 feet and there are no steep uphill stretches. There is one road crossing just under one mile after the start.

Race provision includes three on-course water stations for the half marathon, offering water, orange squash and sweets, plus first aid support at those stations. At the finish all runners receive water and a packet of biscuits, a finisher medal and a race branded gift. A bag drop is available for the half marathon. Coaches transport competitors to the start as part of the entry fee. Toilets are provided at race HQ and portable toilets are available at the start points.

Cut-off arrangements are enforced for safety; a tail runner and marshals monitor progress and can advise runners. A two-crew medical response team with ambulance cover is in place. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
