White Peak Half Marathon
The White Peak Half Marathon is an off road 13.1 mile event that follows the High Peak Trail from Friden to Cromford. The route runs on former railway tracks over firm compacted limestone and cinder surfaces, making road running shoes suitable.
The course undulates along the tops of the dales for roughly the first eight miles, then descends in three stages in the later miles to reach High Peak Junction and the Cromford Canal. The total descent across the course is about 800 feet and there are no steep uphill stretches on the half marathon section. There is one road crossing a little over one mile after the start.
The entry is limited to 350 runners and the published entry fees are £32 (affiliated) and £34 (unaffiliated); the fee includes coach transfer to the race start and a medal and race gift for finishers. Minimum age is 17 and the course is marked. Registration and the finish area are at Cromford Wharf; baggage drop is provided for the half marathon and returned to race HQ. Three on-course stations cover the half marathon with water, squash and basic provisions, and toilets and refreshments are available at the finish. The organisers note that off road measurement can vary and the course is not eligible for qualifying times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
