West Virginia Trail Fest
West Virginia Trail Fest is an annual, family-oriented trail running festival held each May in Pocahontas County, West Virginia. The weekend program includes a movie night, kids activities, a ride on the Cass Historic Railroad, an awards ceremony, and a Mother's Day breakfast. The festival highlights nearby features such as state parks, the Monongahela National Forest, the Green Bank Observatory, Snowshoe Ski Resort, local fire towers, and Pocahontas County history.
The event offers multiple trail race distances:
- 100K - point-to-point ultramarathon
- 50K - point-to-point trail race
- 30K - loop starting and finishing in Snowshoe Village
- 5K - bike-trail course in Snowshoe Village
- Kids mile - short loop for children, t-shirt and finisher medal provided
Course details include single-track trails, fire roads, river trail sections, and several swing bridge crossings. The 100K route passes Seneca State Forest headquarters, the Seneca fire tower, the Allegheny Trail, Greenbrier River Trail to Cass, Green Bank Observatory, Hosterman, and Bald Knob at 4,843 ft before finishing in Snowshoe Village with about 11,500 ft of elevation gain and a 20-hour cut-off. The 50K follows Allegheny Trail sections to Bald Knob at 4,867 ft, finishes in Snowshoe Village, has about 6,300 ft of elevation gain and a 13-hour cut-off. The 30K and 5K use trails around Snowshoe with roughly 3,800 ft and 650 ft of elevation gain respectively. The kids mile starts and ends in Snowshoe Village and includes participant awards.
