Green Bank Turkey Trot
The event offers three options: a 10K trail run, a 5K run/walk, and a 1K Gobble Wobble for children eight and under. It is organized as a hybrid event with an in-person race at the Green Bank Science Center on the Green Bank Observatory campus and a virtual trot option.

The 10K course runs on trails with a mix of flats and hills, crossing fields and wooded single track and passing behind-the-scenes areas and telescopes. The 5K follows mostly paved site roads with short sections on well groomed trails and provides views of observatory telescopes including the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT). The Gobble Wobble includes an obstacle course; prizes will be awarded with age groups decided the day of.
Registration details and fees are specified by date: registration by November 20 guarantees a t-shirt. Virtual participants outside Pocahontas County pay $10 per family for postage; Pocahontas County residents choosing the virtual option in 2026 may pick up shirts without added shipping. Online or on-site registration after November 20 has different fees for each race.
Age divisions are 13 and under, 14–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60 and over, with first and second place awards in each division. A water station is located at the halfway point.
