Wausau Trail Run
The Wausau Trail Run is held in central Wisconsin at Nine Mile County Forest. The event runs on a Friday evening and begins as the sun is about to set, so all runners are required to carry at least one light source. Organizers adopted a lap format in 2026: the course is set at approximately 5K and runners complete 1, 2, or 4 laps to create 5K, 10K, and 20K options.
The course mixes single track mountain bike trails and ski trails. Course maps are published in advance but are subject to change, and distances are approximate due to winding trails. Only registered racers, credentialed media, and event staff may be on the racecourse; spectators may be present in the venue but must stay clear of the course. Dogs are allowed on the venue on leash but are not permitted on the course.
Parking is free; carpooling is encouraged and runners are advised to use Red Bud Road parking to avoid being blocked by arriving riders. A pre-race meeting is held on Friday near the start and all participants must attend. Each participant must cross the finish line to have their time recorded; failure to finish results in a DNF. Aid and first aid are available on course, with water and nutrition at Red Bud Road and at Checkpoint Charlie. No listening devices with earphones or speakers are permitted on the course.
