About the race

Walk in the Park is a grassroots ultra trail event held in Kenna Cartwright Park, Kamloops, BC. The race has run since 1992 and offers multiple distances, including a new 8 km option introduced for 2026. The event emphasizes community and local trail running.

The course alternates direction by year (even years clockwise, odd years counterclockwise) and showcases desert terrain with panoramic views of the Kamloops area. Surfaces include compact dirt single track, occasional loose rock, wider double track sections and short stretches of gravel access road. Routes feature sustained ascents and descents as well as short punchy climbs and some slightly technical sections.

Race distances:

  • 50 km two laps of the 25 km course, approx. 1780 m vertical gain/loss
  • 25 km approx. 25.5 km, approx. 890 m vertical gain/loss
  • 14 km approx. 14.3 km, approx. 510 m vertical gain/loss
  • 8 km new for 2026, closer to 9 km, approx. 275 m vertical gain/loss

Three staffed aid stations are located on course (Start/Finish, Spadefoot, Reservoir) and are positioned roughly every 4.5 to 6.5 km depending on rotation. Aid station provisions include snacks and basic fuel options, plus water, Coke and a sports drink. The event is cupless so runners must carry a bottle or reusable cup. Designated routes are marked with pin flags and ground flour markings at important intersections.

Official results are posted online after the event. The race maintains traditions such as permanent bib numbers and special recognition for multiple-time ultra finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
