Vulcan's Fury Trail Race : Pawtuckaway State Park, Nottingham NH

Vulcan's Fury is a rugged trail race held at Pawtuckaway State Park, a former volcanic area. The course uses hiking trails and combines distance and elevation with very technical terrain. Runners traverse a large boulder field, dense forest, single-track switchbacks, stream crossings, bridges, and a rocky slope called the Devil's Staircase.

The event offers multiple distances:

  • Half Marathon
  • 5 Miler

On the long course there are three aid stations at the following approximate locations: Round Pond (mile 4.3), corner of Mountain Road and South Ridge connector (mile 7.4), and the Mountain Trail Woronoco split (mile 10.4). For the half marathon there are time cutoffs at the second and third aid stations; participants who do not meet those cutoffs will be transported back to the start/finish area.

Logistics note: the race assembly is listed at the park pavilion on Mountain Road in Nottingham NH; some GPS devices show an alternate address. Bib pickup occurs on race day during a morning window and there is no early bib pickup or day-of registration. For 2026 the event lists $7500 in prize money.
