Vol State

The Vol State is a long-distance road race scheduled for July 7 to 17, 2027 in Sand Mountain, Georgia. The route is described in the event information as 314 miles and is also listed as a 500K event. The course begins with a ferry crossing of the Mississippi River and finishes at a landmark called the Rock on Sand Mountain. The route follows highways and backroads through small towns, hills, rivers, and valleys.

Participants are responsible for their own food, water, sleep, and navigation; the event does not provide aid stations or routine pacers. Entrants must report their location by phone or text each day at 0730 and 1930; failure to check in will prompt a search. Runners may withdraw at any time by calling for pickup, and transportation to the car park will be provided as soon as feasible.

Two registration options are offered. The lower cost option is for those who provide their own transportation and pre race accommodations. The higher cost Bus + Hotel option includes a parking spot at the finish from the day before the race, a guaranteed bus seat with lunch to Union City, a double occupancy room in Union City the night before the race, a bus ride from Union City to the ferry on race morning, and the event last supper meal.

An initial lottery was scheduled for August 1, 2026 and a wait list is maintained; withdrawals are replaced from the wait list. Refunds follow a declining schedule: 90% until December 24, then 80% January through March, 70% April and May, and 50% in June. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
