Ultra-Trail Cape Town
Ultra-Trail Cape Town stages a series of mountain trail races that run across the Cape Peninsula and Table Mountain National Park in late November. The event program includes multiple distances:
- 100 miles
- 100 km
- 55 km
- 35 km
- 23 km
- 16 km
The UTCT 100 mile route moves from the northern mountain range to the southern mountains, passing trails such as Silvermine, Kalk Bay, Kommetjie and Simonstown, and accumulates 7 516 m of vertical gain. Other races use sections of the northern mountain range and include trails on Table Mountain, Lion's Head, Signal Hill and the 12 Apostles, as well as routes near Llandudno, Hout Bay, the Constantia Winelands, the upper slopes of Kirstenbosch Nature Reserve and Devil's Peak.
All races cover technical terrain with steep ascents and descents. Weather conditions can vary during the day, from single-digit temperatures early on Table Mountain to temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius later. Participants are expected to take care and observe precautions when moving through Table Mountain National Park and its surrounds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
