Top of Tamarack
Top of Tamarack is an out-and-back mountain event at Tamarack Resort that raises funds for suicide prevention and mental health programs organized by Gr8ter, Inc. The course follows gravel service roads from Tamarack Village toward the summit and returns to the start. Participants may choose their mode of travel : hiking, running, or biking : and select the distance they wish to cover.
The course allows any distance up to a maximum of just under 15 miles roundtrip with a total climb of about 2,900 feet to the summit. Each mile is marked by a token station; participants collect tokens at stations or, if they reach the summit, may collect all tokens there. Results record tokens collected and time to the top for summit finishers. The event includes timed results to the summit and awards for top finishers in running and biking categories.
Aid stations and support are placed along the route, with stations at the start/finish, Wildwood intersection (3.1 miles), midmountain (4.8 miles), and the summit (7.3 miles). Restrooms are at the base, mid-mountain, and summit. To reduce waste, aid stations do not provide disposable cups; participants must carry refillable water containers. The event enforces a course cut-off for safety; participants continuing to the summit must meet that checkpoint requirement. Packet pickup is handled before race day. Registration is limited, race swag is guaranteed for registrations received by September 10, and no refunds are offered.
Top of Tamarack also includes a Memorial Mile to honor lives lost to suicide and Overcomer Alley to recognize those recovering from mental health struggles. Net proceeds support Gr8ter initiatives such as Trail Fridays and the Gr8ter Sock Project. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
