Three Little Pigs 5K Trail Run
On October 10, 2026, Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge in Pittsboro hosts an officially timed 5K trail run. The course consists of three loops on gravel roads that wind through the refuge's fields and forests and passes the houses and habitats of resident animals. The route includes access to new land designated for future rescued pigs.
Immediately after the timed 5K, the event offers a family friendly Fun Run where participants may travel at their own pace to the new pig habitat. During the Fun Run a tour guide will share the refuge's vision for the pig homes. Rescued goats, sheep, cows, ducks, geese, and chickens are present near the course.
The event supports The Pig Project, a campaign to build houses and other infrastructure to provide rescued pigs with a permanent home. The program includes food and drink vendors and a trophy ceremony for winners. Early bird registration is listed at thirty dollars until August 1, after which regular registration is forty dollars and day of registration is fifty dollars. Individuals who register before September 18 are guaranteed race t shirts, swag bags, and finisher medals. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
