The Green Man Ultra : Summer event
The Summer Green Man Ultra offers two ultra distances on the Community Forest Path around Bristol. Both races use the same course and checkpoints and finish at the same location, with different start locations.
- 45 mile full clockwise loop starting and finishing at Ashton Park School.
- 30 mile partial clockwise loop starting at The White Horse, Hambrook, finishing at Ashton Park School.
There are four manned checkpoints that provide water and basic food. The race is cup free so competitors must carry a reusable cup. The route is self-navigated; timelords run to set target times (9, 10, 11 and 12 hours) and are identifiable by an hour marker flag to assist with navigation. Tracking for summer events will be introduced from 2027.
Finishers receive a bespoke GMU medal. From 2027 the free race t-shirt is excluded and race shirts are offered as optional extras. The event enforces checkpoint cut-offs and an overall 12 hour completion allowance for the full 45 mile route. Entrants must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, Ordnance Survey maps, compass or GPS, head torch with spare batteries, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit. Entry fees and deposits are non refundable under the organiser’s stated terms.
The organisers provide race rules, time limits, navigation guides and checkpoint provisions; competitors are responsible for their own safety, navigation and compliance with the mandatory kit requirements. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
