The Wasatch Yard
The Wasatch Yard is a backyard ultra held in Round Valley, Park City, Utah, with the start and finish located on Gillmor Way. Runners complete a repeated loop of 4.167 miles each hour; the format continues until one runner finishes a loop that no other runner completes.
The course runs on mixed trail terrain including gravel, greenway, and single-track. The event uses a dedicated crew area next to the start line so runners can access gear and support between laps. The race begins in the evening and continues into night, so runners commonly use headlamps as the hours progress.
Race structure requires steady pacing and time management: each lap must be finished within the hour to continue. Twenty-four laps equal 100 miles under the standard backyard ultra calculation. The event includes milestone prizes during the race, recognition for strong middle-field performance, and final awards for the last runner standing.
The format emphasizes repeated, identical laps and the endurance of returning to the start line on the hour. Practical demands noted by the organizers include controlled pacing on mixed trail, patience as the field tires, and efficient decision making in the crew area between laps.
