The Wall Ultramarathon

The Wall is a single-distance ultramarathon covering 70 miles (112 km) on a one way route from Carlisle to the Gateshead/Newcastle quayside area. The event is mass participation and is designed to be completed at roughly 3 mph, allowing participants to walk or run the course. The route is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows and supported by staff at key locations.

The event operates five staffed Pit Stops that provide water, juice, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, toilets and an on-site medical team. Pit Stops do not supply sports nutrition products such as gels; participants are expected to carry any specialist supplements they use. The organisers aim to offer options for vegetarians, vegans and some gluten free or dairy free snacks, though cross contamination cannot be guaranteed. The event provides baggage transfers for two bags: a smaller bag available at the 44 mile point and a larger bag transported to the finish. Bags are exposed to the elements and have size and weight limits.

Medical cover is delivered by a professional event medic provider with paramedics, doctors and dedicated vehicles. The event includes a sweeper service to transport participants who stop early and operates a non competitive ethos with results presented without podium places. Registration occurs in Carlisle before the event and participants must be 18 or over on the day of registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
