The Wall Ultramarathon
The Wall is a one way, mass-participation ultramarathon held on 12 June 2027. The course covers 70 miles (112 km) and the event is scheduled with a total duration of 26 hours. The discipline is listed as run/trek and the organiser aims to make the route accessible by designing it to be completable at 3 mph.
The route is fully waymarked with bright orange arrows so participants do not need to follow a GPX file. The course passes historic and rural points of interest including sections beside Hadrian's Wall and finishes on the Quayside where participants pass a sequence of bridges toward the Millennium Bridge.
Support provision includes five staffed Pit Stops stocked with real food, water, juice, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, toilets and on-site medical teams. The Pit Stops provide options for vegetarians, vegans and some gluten free or dairy free items, though cross contamination cannot be guaranteed. Sports nutrition is not supplied so participants should carry their own gels and supplements.
Event logistics include bag transfers with a Hexham bag available at the 44 mile mark (max 20 L, under 5 kg) and a larger finish bag transported to Gateshead (max 70 L, under 15 kg); waterproof packing is recommended. Professional medical cover is provided by a qualified team of paramedics and doctors in vehicles and an ambulance. There are generous cut offs at specific checkpoints along the route. Participants must be aged 18 or over on the day of registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
