About the race

THE TRACK Australia is a multi-day foot race across the Australian Outback covering 520 km over 9 stages and 10 days of competition. The route runs in the Northern Territory between Alice Springs and Uluru, crossing West MacDonnell National Park, Finke Gorge National Park and finishing near Uluru / Kata Tjuta National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site situated in Anangu Aboriginal territory.

The course uses pebbly and sandy tracks and single track. Competition conditions require food self-sufficiency; each participant must carry food for 10 days totalling a minimum of 20 000 kcal presented in two similarly weighted bags (Day 1–5 and Day 6–10). Water is supplied at checkpoints and bivouacs, with distributions of 8 to 12 liters per competitor per day; participants must carry their own 1-liter bidons. Sleeping arrangements combine tents (two people per tent) and hotel stays.

Mandatory equipment is checked before the race and includes items such as a backpack, sleeping bag, headlamps, compass, whistle, survival blanket, cooking kit and specified medical and food items. Cutoff limits per stage range from 10 to 35 hours; competitors who miss cutoffs may remain in the event and are classified by the distance completed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
