Trail Running in the Peak District

The Cheese & Crackers Trail is a trail running event based in Hartington, Derbyshire. Participants run through the scenery of the Peak District National Park, including tree-lined dales, limestone cliffs, and open countryside. The routes consist of a mixture of technical trails and waymarked paths.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 8.4 km with 135 m of elevation gain
  • 16.4 km with 290 m of elevation gain

The race headquarters is located at Hartington Village Hall, where registration and a secure bag drop are provided. Participants on the long course are required to carry mandatory safety equipment, including a waterproof jacket with taped seams, waterproof trousers, emergency food, a foil blanket, and a whistle. All participants must be aged 18 or over on the day of the event.

Upon completing the course, runners can access the event HQ to sample a selection of more than 10 local cheeses and rustic crackers. Every participant receives a goodie bag containing cheese, crackers, and port from a local cheese shop. A portion of each entry fee is donated to trail repair and nature recovery projects within the Peak District and Derbyshire. The event uses professional timing, and results are published after the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
