The Swamp Fox Ultra
The Swamp Fox Ultra is a multi-distance trail event on March 6–7, 2027 in McClellanville, South Carolina, organized by Palmetto Ultras and held at Buck Hall Recreation Area. The course uses sections of the Palmetto Trail and crosses the Francis Marion National Forest.
Distances
- 100 Mile (approximately 104 miles)
- 50 Mile (approximately 53 miles)
- 50K
- Half Marathon (approximately 14 miles)
- 10K
The course is an out-and-back layout with single and double track, some fire roads, and boardwalks over wet sections. Much of the trail is shaded; lowcountry terrain can include water on the trail depending on recent weather. The 100 mile route follows both the Awendaw and Swamp Fox passages and covers 52 miles out before returning.
Support includes four aid stations plus three water drops on the 52 mile out-and-back section. Aid stations offer packaged snacks, hydration options, some hot and heavier food later in the day, and porta potties. Drop bags can be transported to aid stations and returned to the start as stations close. The race is cupless; runners receive a reusable collapsible cup at packet pickup.
Tracking for 100 mile entrants is provided by Follow My Challenge USA. Tracking for 50 milers is optional for a fee. Required gear for 100 milers includes a phone with the GPX file, ability to carry 1.5 L fluids, an emergency blanket, a lightweight jacket, and a power bank. Lights are required for 50 and 100 mile runners when running after dark. Cutoffs are published for each distance and all finishers receive medals; 100 mile finishers receive a custom buckle. Primitive camping is available at the overflow parking area and nearby campground sites offer hookups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
