The Skippo at Castlewood State Park
The Skippo is a weekend trail race held at Castlewood State Park on October 31 and November 1, 2026. The event began in 2009 and originally used two 10K loops on a mostly flat course that includes a notable set of stairs. The race is named in honor of a local trail volunteer who helped maintain the park trails.
Multiple distance options are offered:
- 10K
- Half marathon
- 30K
Packet pickup is available at Big River Running Company on the Thursday before the race and at the event staging area inside Castlewood State Park on race weekend. A marked bag drop area is provided near the start and finish for personal items.
Two multi-race challenges pair the Saturday 10K with a Sunday distance: a 40K challenge combining the 10K and 30K, and a 10 plus Half challenge combining the 10K and the half marathon. All challenge finishers receive a challenge specific custom award.
All entrants receive a custom long sleeve tech shirt. All finishers receive a Skippo mug, and finishers in the half marathon and 30K also receive a custom Skippo medal. Top three in each 10 year age group receive a custom award.
Field size is limited by park requirements and the event may reach capacity quickly. Complimentary finisher photos and videos are provided. Live results are available and can be delivered via text when a phone number is provided during registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
