About the race

The Pilgrim Challenge is a two-day, 66-mile ultramarathon along the North Downs Way National Trail. The route passes woodlands, rolling fields, historic churches and villages on a section of trail once used by pilgrims travelling to Canterbury.

The event provides on-course support and logistics including luggage transfers, hot meals, staffed aid stations, signage and GPX files for watches or phones. A Course Manager and a fully qualified medical crew attend the event. Accommodation for the weekend is included in the local school hall; minibuses run between the event and three designated local hotels (Premier Inn Redhill, Redhill Town Centre Travelodge and Redhill Travelodge). Parking is available at Sandy Farm Business Park at participants own risk and is locked overnight during the weekend; single-day participants are advised to use local station car parks and shuttle services.

Compulsory kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, at least 500 ml of water, a waterproof jacket and a head torch if likely to finish in the dark; participants may be withdrawn at a checkpoint if they lack required kit once darkness falls. Organisers may make additional kit compulsory depending on weather. Registration and timing chip collection take place at Sandy Farm Business Park for full-event and day-one entrants and at Carrington School for day-two entrants. Transport options to the start points include scheduled shuttle services and public trains to Farnham and Redhill, with road access via nearby A-roads and motorways. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
