The Peak 50K / Marathon / Half Marathon

The Peak is a trail running event on October 17, 2026 with registration opening April 1, 2026. The event offers three distances:

  • 50K
  • Marathon
  • Half marathon

Runners follow mostly single-track trail that climbs to Cuyamaca Peak, listed as San Diego County’s second highest. The 50K and marathon routes climb about 2,200 feet over the initial 6.3 miles, then descend about 2,800 feet to the Sweetwater aid station and the marathon turnaround. The marathon return trip brings the total elevation gain and loss to about 10,000 feet. 50K participants complete an additional five-mile loop before returning to Sweetwater and then follow the same return route as the marathon. The half marathon follows the Conejos Trail up to the peak and then returns to the start/finish area.

The start area is at Camp Hual-Cu-Cuish. The course is described in turn-by-turn sections that include named trails and fire roads, and GPX files and course maps are provided for each distance. Aid stations include Cuyamaca Peak and Sweetwater locations. Cutoff limits are set by checkpoint and distance, expressed in hours: half marathon finish 4.5 hours; marathon checkpoints 4.5, 6, and 8.5 hours; 50K checkpoints 4, 5.5, 7.5, and 10 hours.

Trail maintenance is supported by volunteers with Trailfit. The event is a qualified race in the SoCal Ultra Series and maintains photo archives from past years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
