The Mt Isthmus Traverse
The Mt Isthmus Traverse is an off road running event held on private land at Glen Dene Station, Lake Hawea. The event uses mountain trails, single track, ridge lines and 4wd farm tracks and offers views of surrounding peaks and the lake. All races start and finish at Craigeburn on Glen Dene Station.
The programme includes the following race distances and elevation profiles:
- Mountain Marathon with ascent 2,175 m and descent 2,175 m
- 27 km Hill Run with ascent 1,529 m and descent 1,529 m
- 10 km Trail Hill Run with ascent 652 m and descent 652 m
- 5 km Trail Hill Run with ascent 310 m and descent 310 m
Water and energy drink will be available at seven checkpoints in the Marathon and four checkpoints in the 27 km event as well as at the start and finish. Courses will be marked with fluorescent pink tape and red directional arrows; participants must follow markers and official instructions. Gear drop is available in a dry secure location. Toilets and designated car parking will be provided near the start and finish.
Compulsory clothing for the Marathon and 27 km events includes a seam sealed waterproof jacket, long sleeve thermal top and leggings, thermal beanie and gloves. A first aid kit and minimum 1 litre of water at the start are required. In recent years the event was postponed due to heavy rain and course damage and registered entries were transferred to a future date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
