Outlet Backyard Ultra Wānaka : Event description
Outlet Backyard Ultra Wānaka is an inaugural backyard ultra held at Outlet Camp Wānaka near the head of the glacial fed Mata-Au/Clutha River. The event uses a single loop yard of approximately 6.7 km composed of well drained moraine, packed forest floor, and single and wide Central Otago trail. The course features mostly gentle gradients, with most uphill sections around 1% and downhill sections up to 3%, and current elevation gain around 35 m with possible adjustments.
Entrants receive a dedicated 3 by 3 m space for race setup and rest between yards. The campsite includes a corral area, family camping along the route, and multiple on-course toilets. Outlet Camp provides a relaxed, spacious setting and discounted camping fees for competitors, whanau, fans, and support; primary crew and entrants have no camping fee and discounted rates are available for friends and whanau on the Friday before the event.
Kits & Bits will be present to supply race kit for those who want equipment on site. The event follows standard Backyard Ultra rules: each yard starts one hour after the previous, competitors must start at the bell, yards must be completed within an hour, and the last person to complete a yard is the winner while others are recorded by yards completed.
