The Mighty Dog Trail Runs
The event at Granite Beach, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area takes place on Saturday, March 20, 2027, and marks the 12th year of the Mighty Dog series. It offers trail distances for participants running or walking with dogs, and includes a separate Mighty Mile for senior dogs.
Distances:
- 5K walk or run; walkers must complete the entire 5K course
- 10K run or walk; 10K participants complete two 5K laps
All human participants and their dogs receive finish items: a Mighty Dog Finisher Medal for people and a bandana or dog tag for dogs at the finish. Extra dogs may accompany a walker for a fee and receive a dog tag and a doggie goody bag. There are awards for first through third place in the three weight divisions and a cani cross category, plus awards for top runners without dogs.
Course and services: the course has one aid station at the halfway point (mile 1.5) providing cold water, an electrolyte beverage, and energy gels for athletes, and water for dogs. The 5K event does not allow listening devices such as MP3 players or headphones; runners and walkers are asked to exercise caution when crossing roads and on trails with dogs.
Logistics and rules: packet pickup is available race morning from 6:30 to 8:00 am at the race site. The organizer maintains a no refund policy; refunds before race week are issued as race credit minus a processing fee, and transfers between events are allowed with a transfer fee within one year.
