THE MAMMOTH - Mammoth Lakes, CA
THE MAMMOTH is a loop footrace held in Mammoth Lakes, California. The route circumnavigates an ancient caldera and passes alpine lakes, abandoned mines, fall foliage, dense pine forests, the Glass Mountains, volcanic rock fields, and the tufa towers of Mono Lake. The course includes summit climbs of Mammoth Mountain, reaching 11,053 feet.
The event is organized by trailfest. and takes place on permitted National Forest lands under special use permission from the Forest Service. Organizers planned to start about 250 participants and the race has used a waitlist as spots open.
Race operations include mandatory check-in procedures and a required Spot Tracker device that must be picked up and gear-checked prior to starting. Volunteer opportunities are available; volunteers receive event perks such as swag and race credits and will receive assignment instructions from the organizer.
Prize purses are offered for the top three male and female finishers, with published amounts for first, second, and third place podiums.
The event has a published refund and deferral policy that varies by date of withdrawal, with reduced refunds or deferrals the closer to the event the request is made; after a specified cutoff no refunds or deferrals are accepted.
