THE MAMMOTH (Mammoth Lakes, CA)
THE MAMMOTH is a long-distance footrace held in Mammoth Lakes, California, scheduled for October 2, 2026. The event is organized by trailfest and takes place on permitted National Forest lands under special use permission from the Forest Service.
The course is a loop that starts and finishes in Mammoth Lakes and circumnavigates a 760,000-year-old caldera. The route passes alpine lakes, abandoned mines, fall foliage, dense pine stands, the Glass Mountains, high desert terrain and extensive volcanic rock fields. Runners traverse the region’s large Jeffrey pine forest and the tufa formations at Mono Lake, and the course includes summits of Mammoth Mountain, reaching 11,053 feet and providing 360° views of the surrounding area.
Event entry details note an early bird price of $1,595 through February 28 and a registration closing date of August 1. Prize purses are offered for overall male and female podiums with amounts of $5,000 for first, $3,000 for second and $2,000 for third. Volunteers are invited to participate; listed perks include event swag and race credits.
