Event overview
Mammoth Trail Fest is a multi-race trail running festival based in Mammoth Lakes with courses on USFS land. The event includes trail races that use marked singletrack, forest roads, and high‑elevation terrain, including a technical ascent to the summit of Mammoth Mountain at 11,053 feet. Courses are marked with flags, ribbons, chalk, and signs; organizers provide GPX files for pre-race familiarization.
Distances include:
- 50K
- 26K
- Dragon’s Back Ascent
- Tenkay
- Woolly’s 1K
- Mammoth Triple
Aid station support varies by race: the 50K has six aid stations, the 26K has four, Tenkay has one, and the Dragon’s Back Ascent has no aid. Aid stations offer a variety of foods, GU products, and water; Summit aid will include pancakes with gluten free and vegan options announced before the races. The event is cup-less so runners should carry their own bottles or collapsible cups.
Safety and logistics notes: pacers are not allowed, crews are restricted at certain aid stations, and course marshals and mountain patrol staff monitor technical sections. Medical coverage and an Emergency Action Plan involve Mammoth Hospital and Mountain patrol partners. There are recommendations for self‑reliance: carry a phone, at least 1 L of fluids, extra layers, and an emergency blanket. The festival also emphasizes sustainability measures such as Terracycle collection and reduced single‑use plastics. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
