The Magnificent Bastard's Challenge

The Magnificent Bastard's Challenge is a last runner and rucker standing event held at Northeast Slopes, a small ski slope in Corinth VT. The course is a single 1 mile loop with a total of 330 feet of climbing. Participants repeat the loop until only one runner remains.

Runners have 20 minutes to complete each loop and return to the start to begin the next loop. Ruckers follow a different pacing rule: males carry 35 pounds and females carry 25 pounds in their ruck and have 30 minutes per loop. At hour 9 of the event the rucker interval changes to 20 minutes to match the runners. Runners and ruckers who last 8 hours receive a medal.

The event is named after the race director's Marine battalion, 2nd Battalion 4th Marines, whose nickname is "The Magnificent Bastards". Each completed loop is dedicated in memory of a Marine from that battalion who lost their life during an American conflict in the battalion's history.

The challenge records listed for the event note a current runner distance record of 49 miles and a current rucker distance record of 34 miles. The event continues looping until a single runner remains. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
