About the race

The Hardmoors 60 is an ultramarathon following the Cleveland Way from Guisborough to Filey. The course runs along the Cleveland coast through Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough, finishing in Filey. The race distance is listed as 62 miles with an ascent of 8202 ft / 2500 m. Competitors have 18 hours to complete the course.

The event uses multiple staffed checkpoints and water points, including Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Hornblower Lodge, Ravenscar and Scarborough, with the finish at Filey Methodist Church Hall. Water and food are available at several checkpoints; the organiser does not supply plastic cups so runners should bring their own. Extra water spots may be added at Skinningrove and Crookness.

Entries for the event are closed. The race includes a tracker issued to each entrant for location monitoring. Two non returnable drop bags are permitted and should be labelled; the standard drop locations are Runswick Bay (about 21 miles) and Ravenscar (about 40 miles). Support crew rules vary by location and some areas do not allow support crews.

Mandatory kit must be carried for the duration of the race and includes items such as a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, minimum 0.5 litre water, two headtorches, paper map, whistle, survival bag and a charged mobile phone. Marshals have final authority on route diversions and tide crossings, and dogs are not permitted at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
