Kinder Barrel Race
The Kinder Barrel Race is an annual fell running event in Edale. The event on Saturday 5 September 2026 returns to a base at Newfold Farm Campsite, opposite the Nags Head Pub in the centre of Edale. The route was revised in 2023 to start and finish in Edale while keeping the original character of running across the moors.
The event program includes a team barrel race involving teams of eight (The Barrel), an individual fell race over the same course (The Pint), a children's race (The Half Pint) and a new kids' team race for 2026 (The Keg). Traditionally the race commemorates a story of runners fetching a barrel of beer from the Snake Pass Inn back to Edale; for about twenty years the Snake Pass Inn was used as the start, with the finish in Edale.
Practical information for attendees notes that Barrel entries are full while places remain for The Pint and The Half Pint. Parking is signed in the village and one parking space is reserved per Barrel Race team to help carry equipment. Organisers encourage travel by train and offer free cake to entrants who can show train tickets. Spectators are welcome; the event field includes a bouncy castle, BBQ, cake stall and a bar. All profits support Hope and Edale Primary Schools. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
