The Great Ferry Race
The Great Ferry Race is a half marathon held on Bainbridge Island, Washington, on June 6, 2027. The event begins uniquely with participants walking onto a Seattle-to-Bainbridge ferry and assembling on the ferry car deck to walk off and start the run on the island dock.
The course loops around Bainbridge Island, passing through the Grand Forest and Battle Point Park. It is a mixed-surface route of roughly three quarters road and one quarter groomed trail, with about 1,400 feet of total elevation gain. The finish area is at the Bainbridge Island Farmer's Market and a post-race festival follows.
There are five aid stations spaced along the course stocked with water, GU gels, and Tailwind Electrolytes. The event is cupless; runners are encouraged to carry a handheld or use a small reusable folding cup available at the start. Free gear check is included with entry; participants riding the ferry can drop bags on the vehicle deck, with collection at the finish line.
Overall awards are given to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers based on gun time, and age-group awards are presented in five-year increments. Entry proceeds benefit Kid's In Concert, Bainbridge Youth Services, and the Snake River Savers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
