The Good Dog-Dirty Dog 5K/10K

The Good Dog-Dirty Dog trail runs take place on August 23, 2026 at Granite Beach, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The event offers trail distances for runners and walkers who may choose to participate with their dogs.

Distances:

  • 10K (6.2 miles)
  • 5K (3.1 miles)

The course uses wide shaded paths, a short section of pavement, and some single-track trails beneath old oak trees. Aid stations are located at the halfway point (mile 1.5) on each course and provide cold water, an electrolyte beverage, and CLIF Shot energy gels for athletes; water is also provided for dogs.

All human finishers receive medals and dogs receive a race bandana. Awards are given first through third in four dog-size divisions defined by weight: Small (up to 25 lbs), Medium (26 to 60 lbs), Large (61 to 99 lbs), and Extra Large (100 to 141+ lbs). There are also awards for the top runners without dogs in both the 5K and 10K.

Listening devices such as MP3 players, iPods, and headphones are not allowed; participants must stay alert when crossing roads and when running or walking on the trails with dogs. Packet pickup is available on race morning at the race site. Registration is offered online or by printable mail-in entry form.

The event has a no-refund policy. Refunds requested before race week are issued as race credit minus a $25 processing fee. Transfers to another event are allowed within one year for a $25 fee. Events are held rain or shine. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
