About the race
The Equalizer 6, 12 and 24 Hour Run takes place on October 31, 2026 at Gray's Lake Park in Des Moines, Iowa. The event is organized with three stated goals: to offer an opportunity to attempt an ultra distance, to score performances using an age and sex equalizer so competitive age group runners can contend for overall places, and to provide an inclusive race atmosphere.
The event consists of these timed endurance options:
- 6 hour race around the loop
- 12 hour race around the loop
- 24 hour race around the loop
The course is a 1.905 mile essentially flat loop on a lighted asphalt path circling Gray's Lake, with views of downtown Des Moines. The loop is USATF certified number IA02004-MF. Laps and distances are counted by race personnel.
One aid station will offer water, soda, fruit, cookies, and soup for the 12 and 24 hour races; volunteers staff the station and runners are advised not to rely solely on it. Indoor toilets will be available; showers will not. Space is provided for tents but camping the Friday night before is not permitted.
Race shirts are given to entrants who sign up on time and attend. Awards for the first ten places in each event are based on actual distance plus the equalizer; one award recognizes the longest actual distance. Packet pickup occurs at the main tent on race morning.
