Cordwell Colossus 20 mile trail race

The Cordwell Colossus is a summer trail event on the edge of the Peak District in North Derbyshire. The route is approximately 20 miles (about 31.7 km) with around 925 m of elevation gain. It forms a loop through the Cordwell Valley with a short section into the Linacre Valley, using trails, paths, woodlands, lanes, single track and trods. Higher ground on the route provides extended views across the area.

The course is largely unmarked, with a couple of trickier navigation sections marked by the organiser. Route notes and GPX files are provided for navigation and a paper map is recommended as a backup. Two checkpoints are on the route: Wigley at about 7.5 miles and The Peacock at Cutthorpe at about 13.5 miles; both are fully stocked with water and a mix of sweet and savoury food.

Race headquarters and the start and finish are at Holmesfield Village Hall in Holmesfield. Free car parking is available at the hall. The event has medic cover on the course and at the race HQ. Every finisher receives a medal and there are prizes for the first male and first female finishers. Light refreshments are available at the finish. The published time limit for the event is six hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
