About the race
The Cordwell Colossus is a summer trail race in North East Derbyshire on the eastern edge of the Peak District. The race is based at Holmesfield Parish Hall, Holmesfield, Dronfield S18 7WZ, with free car parking at the parish hall. The route is a loop of just over 20 miles that crosses the Cordwell and Linacre Valleys and uses countryside paths, trails and woodlands.
Route surfaces and conditions range from highly runnable trails and lanes to single track and trods. The course is largely unmarked, with a couple of trickier navigation sections marked. Organisers provide route notes and GPX files; participants may bring a paper map as backup.
A six hour time limit applies. There are two checkpoints with water and both sweet and savoury food: CP1 at Wigley (about 7.5 miles) and CP2 at The Peacock at Cutthorpe (about 13.5 miles). Medic cover is provided on the course and at race headquarters. All finishers receive a medal and there are prizes for first male and first female in each race. Light refreshments are available at the finish.
