The Cerne Giant
The Cerne Giant is a challenge event in Dorset offering a choice of 20 miles or 30 miles to be completed within 11 hours. The event starts from Cerne Abbas Village Hall and the routes pass through downland and river valleys around the village.
Routes pass through Alton Pancras and Lyscombe Chapel; the 30 mile route additionally goes via Bingham's Melcombe and Sydling St Nicholas. Both routes pass the Dorsetshire Gap and Buckland Newton. Route descriptions and GPX files will be available about ten days before the event.
There is a rolling start and participants must have their tally card scanned before starting; starters should time their begin so they do not arrive at the first checkpoint before it opens. The 30 mile route has three checkpoints; the 20 mile route has two. Checkpoints will offer drinks and light snacks. A light vegetarian meal is provided at the finish; participants with other dietary requirements should carry their own food and drink. Entrants should bring a personal mug as disposable cups are not used.
Entries are limited to 180 and are not transferable. No entries are accepted on the day. The minimum age is 16. Entry fees are £15 for LDWA members and £25 for non members. Dogs are not allowed. All finishers receive a certificate. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
