About the race

The Cerne Giant is a challenge event on 21 March 2027 offering a choice of long routes with a completion time limit of 11 hours. It starts from Cerne Abbas Village Hall in the village of Cerne Abbas, the site of the Cerne Giant, and follows downland and river valleys in Dorset.

The route passes through Alton Pancras, Lyscombe Chapel, Bingham's Melcombe (30 mile route only), the Dorsetshire Gap, Buckland Newton and Sydling St Nicholas (30 mile route only). There are two checkpoints on the 20 mile route and three on the 30 mile route. Checkpoints provide drinks and light snacks. Entrants should bring their own mug because disposable cups are not used. A light vegetarian meal will be available at the finish; participants with other dietary needs should plan to carry their own food.

Start and finish use Cerne Abbas Village Hall. Parking is limited and located roughly 600 metres from the start; parking details are provided with the route description. Route descriptions and GPX files will be available on the Dorset LDWA website about ten days before the event. Entries open 1 November 2026 and close 7 March 2027. Entry is limited to 180 places, is not transferable, and no entries are accepted on the day. Minimum age is 16. All finishers receive a certificate.
