About the race

The Cerne Giant is a challenge event based at Cerne Abbas Village Hall in Dorset. Participants choose between two long-distance routes that run through downland and river valleys and pass local landmarks and villages.

The event offers the following distances:

  • 20 miles
  • 30 miles

Both courses use marked routes. The 30 mile route includes additional waypoints compared with the 20 mile route. Route descriptions and GPX files will be available about ten days before the event.

There are checkpoints along each route: two on the 20 mile course and three on the 30 mile course. Checkpoints provide drinks and light snacks; a light vegetarian meal is provided at the finish. Participants should bring their own mug because disposable cups are not used. Dogs are not permitted.

Entrants must have their tally card scanned before starting and the event uses a rolling start format. A time cut off will be applied. Parking is located about 600 m from the village hall and is limited. Entries open on 1 November 2026 and close on 7 March 2027. Entry is limited to 180 places, entries are not transferable and entries are not accepted on the day. Minimum age is 16 on the event date. All finishers receive a certificate. Entry fees differ for LDWA members and non members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
