The Big Cheese

The Big Cheese is a 15 mile off road fell race across the Mendip Hills that starts and finishes in Cheddar. The course includes over 2,000 ft of ascent and is categorised as a Fell Race Category B event. The race is licensed by the TRA and is run under UK Athletics rules.

The route is fully marked and marshalled. Water stations are provided at miles 4, 7 and 11, with snacks including some vegan options. The organisers provide a medal for finishers and tea and cake are included with entry. The event has a four hour cut off and a sweeper will be used on the course. Participants should note that parts of the course lie on paths that are not rights of way.

The event is organised and staffed by Cheddar Running Club members and supporters, with all profits donated to a range of local charities and organisations. Supported charities named for this event include Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Somerset Wildlife Trust, Mendip Hills National Landscape and Prickles Hedgehog Rescue.

Facilities at Race HQ include baggage storage, changing, showers, indoor seating and toilets. There is no parking at the school; the main car park in Cheddar village next to the Riverside pub (postcode BS27 3PX) is used for event parking and is about a ten minute walk from the registration area.

Date of the event is 4th April 2027. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
