Battle of the Brampton Valley Way
The Battle of the Brampton Valley Way is an out-and-back running event on Sunday 11 April 2027 along the traffic free Brampton Valley Way. The full route covers two 14 mile stretches, giving an overall distance of 28 miles (45 km), which is just over a marathon and is therefore classed as an ultra. One-way length along the trail is 14 miles (22.5 km).
- 14 miles (22.5 km) one-way length of the Brampton Valley Way
- 28 miles (45 km) full out-and-back distance, classed as an ultra
The event runs as a Leicestershire versus Northamptonshire contest. There are 100 places available from each end and entrants choose which county to represent. Timing mats at both ends give a halfway split and a mathematical model is used to compare performances across the two sides.
The route is a hard packed track with a modest elevation gain of 280m, occasional puddles and a small ford, and is suitable for road or trail shoes. Runners pass through two dark tunnels of 294m and 422m, so a head torch or small handheld torch is required; tunnel surfaces include ruts and puddles. Feed stations are provided every 4.5 miles with four in total. Toilets are available at both start/finish locations and at the turnaround.
Additional event details: entries cost £35, minimum age is 18 on race day, the race cut-off time is 7 hours, entries and transfers close at 7pm on the Wednesday before the event, and canicross is not permitted. Top three male and female finishers receive prizes and all finishers receive a commemorative medal. Race t-shirts can be pre-ordered up to three weeks before the event and free digital race photos are provided after the race. The event supports local foodbanks in Market Harborough and Northampton. GPX route files are available for both start locations. Parking is available at Boughton Car Park and Market Harborough Leisure Centre with signed access to the start.
