The Barnyard Backyard Ultra
The Barnyard Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary in Erie, CO on October 24, 2026. The event uses the backyard ultra format: runners repeatedly complete a 4.167-mile loop every hour and must return to the start corral before the next loop to remain eligible. The race continues until one runner completes a final lap alone; that final finisher is the event winner and all other participants are recorded as DNF under the event rules.
The course at the sanctuary is mostly flat and non-technical with under 200 feet of elevation gain per lap. Surfaces include dirt, grass, and gravel; trail running shoes are recommended. Runners will pass sanctuary residents and have views of the Rocky Mountains while on course.
A single central aid station near the race hub will offer items such as bananas, oranges, bread and peanut butter, pretzels, ice water, and Neversecond C30 Forest Berry sports drink. This is a cupless event, so runners should provide their own drinking gear. A warming tent will be available near the aid area.
Designated runner camp areas allow tents up to 10x10 and support crew access between loops. Packet pickup is available the day before the race and on race day. Participants who complete 100 miles/24 hours receive a completion medal; the last runner standing earns a special buckle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
