The Barnyard Backyard Ultra
The Barnyard Backyard Ultra is a traditional Backyard Ultra held at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary in Erie, Colorado. Runners complete repeated loops of 4.167 miles (6.7056 km); each loop must be finished within one hour. The event continues until one runner completes the final loop and is the last runner standing.
The course is mostly flat and non-technical, with a mix of dirt, grass, and gravel and under 200 feet of elevation gain per lap. There is one central aid station near the race hub stocked with items such as bananas, oranges, bread and peanut butter, pretzels, ice water, electrolyte mix, and a carbohydrate drink. This is a cupless event; participants must bring their own hydration gear. A warming tent is available near the aid area.
Runners may set up personal camps in designated 10x10 spaces and crews may support athletes only from the camp area and the race hub. Pacers are not permitted. All participants must cross the start/finish line after completing a lap before stopping at their camp so laps are correctly recorded. Parking is onsite at the sanctuary.
All participants receive a race medal. Runners who complete 100 miles receive a buckle; the last runner standing receives a special buckle and is the official winner, while other finishers are recorded as DNF. A portion of proceeds supports Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary. Pets are not allowed and all brought food must be plant based. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
