The Animal Run 5k Tofurkey Trot
The Animal Run 5k Tofurkey Trot is a vegan fundraising run, walk, and canicross event held on Thanksgiving Day at San Leandro Marina Park Parking Lot (South) in San Leandro, California (14001 Monarch Bay Dr). The event raises funds for animal welfare organizations and encourages support for vegan businesses.
This year's beneficiary is the Milo Foundation, which rescues dogs and cats from high-kill shelters, rehabilitates animals, offers sanctuary for those not adoptable, and promotes responsible pet guardianship including spay and neuter. Course and canicross notes: the 5K course is described as flat and fast with options to run on mostly dirt and grass plus some road. Canicross is run with one or two dogs attached to the runner; the runner uses a waist belt or hip harness, the dog wears a specifically designed harness, and the pair are joined by a bungee or elastic line to reduce shock. Organizers provide additional safety instructions for canicross participants 12 years old and under.
