Event Overview
The Thanksgiving XC Classic 5K & 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk is a European-style cross-country event held at Reid Park in Tucson. The race takes place on a varied course consisting of grass and dirt surfaces, with some asphalt sections. To maintain the cross-country tradition, the route features hay bales, though lanes are provided for those who prefer to bypass these obstacles.
The event offers two main distances:
- 5K: A two-loop course that is part of The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix.
- 1.5 Mile: A one-loop course designated as a Fun Run/Walk.
Participation and Logistics
Strollers are permitted on the course, though participants should be aware that the terrain is hilly and primarily off-road. For safety reasons, dogs are not allowed at the event. The 5K competition features separate start groups for women and men. Participants in both events receive a cotton shirt, available in women's, unisex, and youth sizes on a first-come, first-served basis.
Teams of up to seven members may compete in the 5K categories, with the top four individual times used to determine the team score. All team registrations must be completed by the Tuesday before the event, as no new teams or team members can be added on race day.
Location and Awards
The course begins near Ramada #10 at the southwest corner of Reid Park, located at 22nd St and Country Club Rd. Awards are provided for overall and masters winners in the 5K, as well as for the top three finishers in various age groups, ranging from 10 and under to 85 and over. Fun Run finishers receive a ribbon, though this distance is not officially timed. The event benefits Team Hoyt Arizona and Toys for Tots.
