Swain Mountain Race, Swain NY
Swain Mountain Race is a mountain trail event held at Swain Ski Resort covering approximately 6.5 miles with nearly 2,500 ft of elevation gain. The course is organized as two loops: the first loop is about 1.8 miles and the second loop about 4.8 miles, with climbs that include Clark and Upper Robinson. The route features steep climbs and descents on ski slopes and mountain trails.
The event includes a named segment, the Robinson Climb, of roughly 0.35 miles with 500 ft plus of gain and an average grade near 25 percent. Split timing is used at the bottom and top of that climb. Prizes are offered for the fastest male and female on the Robinson Climb and for the fastest downhill split from the top of Upper Robinson to the finish. A prize is also noted for the slowest climb attempt on Robinson. Post-race refreshments and on-site activities are part of the event program.
This race is sanctioned by USATF Niagara and serves as the 2027 USATF Niagara Open and Masters Mountain Association Championships. It is also part of the 2027 USATF Niagara Runner Of The Year Series and Team Grand Prix Series. Because of sanctioning and the championship status, hiking poles are prohibited. The published registration fee is $50 and a $10 pre-registration discount applies for 2026 USATF members who provide their membership number.
Prize structure includes USATF Niagara overall awards for eligible members, masters awards, and age-group gift card awards for top three finishers across standard age categories. Sponsors include USATF Niagara, Rochester Running Company, Bergen Elite, Once Again Nut Butter, and Wegmans. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
