Surf the Murph
Surf the Murph is a trail running event held Oct. 17, 2026 at Murphy Hanrehan Park in Savage, Minnesota. The course is suburban and moves through parkland with rolling hills, wooded trails, prairie and a beaver dam. The course includes about two miles of single track and one mile on the south end that is half gravel and half asphalt. Difficulty rating 3 and terrain rating 3 are provided.
Distances use a 16.7 mile loop. Races are chip timed and most prizes emphasize Halloween costumes rather than performance awards. Race packets are mailed to entrants and each registration includes a commemorative shirt and a branded finishers award. Shirt sizing is unisex. Registration opens June 1 and closes Oct. 16. No refunds or bib transfers are issued.
Practical notes for participants include the need for flashlights or headlamps at the start and sometimes at the end, four official aid stations offering pre packaged snacks and water, portable restrooms and firepits, and two road crossings per lap on a public gravel road with no traffic monitors. Drop bag areas are available at the Start Finish and Horse Camp aid stations. Pacers are allowed but must check in at the trail head building and muling is not permitted. The organizer provides information about camping. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
