City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival
The City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival is a two-day winter sports festival held in Minneapolis at Theodore Wirth Park and Lake of the Isles on February 6–7, 2027. The program includes cross-country ski events in both classic and skate technique, fat bike races, skijor races, a snowshoe event, and winter Kubb tournaments.
Several longer races use point-to-point courses that pass through parkways and woods and finish in front of The Trailhead in Theodore Wirth Park. The festival includes a combined Loppet Challenge that requires completing both the Classic event on the first day and the Skate event on the second day.
The Ski-Orienteering Loppet, hosted by the Minnesota Orienteering Club, is a timed map-and-compass navigation race on skis and typically offers two course lengths: Medium/Long (7–9 km) and Short (4–5 km). The Snowshoe Loppet is a point-to-point 10 km route from the Chain of Lakes to The Trailhead via woods and groomed ski trails.
The Open Loppet 5K is a freestyle event where participants may classic or skate ski; it uses a seeded wave start and permits costumes. The festival also features youth Next Generation ski events in short distances designed for younger participants.
